Two scholars at National Heritage Academies’ (NHA) partner-schools qualified for the Scripps National Spelling Bee, earning their way to the annual spelling tradition in Washington, D.C.
Canton Charter Academy fifth-grade scholar Divya Choudhary and Ridge Park Charter Academy eighth-grade student Josh Diocares will represent their schools in May at the National Spelling Bee. This year marks the 96th competition in the illustrious event’s history.
Choudhary’s family is no stranger to the National Spelling Bee. Divya’s sister Pragya competed in 2018, and their mother Lalita Mishra has helped her children prepare for spelling contests for years. Choudhary plans to study 200-250 words per day and 18 hours per week leading up to the competition.
Diocares will make his second appearance at the Scripps National Spelling Bee after he also qualified for the event in 2022. He is aiming to place higher than he did in 2022. Diocares’ plan to do so includes asking more questions and getting as much information about a word before he spells it.
